DescriptionThe friendly UPS guy delivered this a few days ago. By artist Virgil E. Pyles, it's the cover to Argosy, August 10, 1935, illustrating Max Brand's "The Sacred Valley." Pyles contributed a number of covers to Argosy during the mid-1930's, as well as working on many other pulps as well. At this time, most Argosy covers had a white background, and as published, this one had somewhat of a white background as well. Either the background was changed in production, or after Pyles got it back he repainted the background, which probably would have made it more saleable to someone who wanted to buy it to hang it.Social/Sharing |
