DescriptionNew York Comic Con, Javitz Center 2006. For those who were there or otherwise aware, but more for those who were not- this initial Javitz comic con attempt was so well received and so poorly planned that the doors were locked due to fire capacity I believe, for the limited area reserved. A lot of people were turned away or delayed despite tickets, etc. I might only have found out afterwards, because I made it in there without issue other than trudging through the snow as far as I did. Trying to imagine the woeful wailing I would have generated if my cross country flight took me no further than those steps. On the contrary, one of the nicest days I have lived. Not because of the convention, or the artists and artwork within, although yes. Because the opening was late enough to send me looking for food, with limited knowledge of where. At the same time, I was almost dead set on some time in the Met which probably wasnt open. Mostly what happened was I walked around looking for somewhere to eat something. Somewhere parallel to the Met and Central Park I stumbled across The Nectar Cafe. Ordered a turnover and coffee, and sat down in a corner of this awesome little cafe. Did not take long to notice the familiar drawings framed on the walls, as we have a Hasen Wonder Woman of that type in the living room. Suitably impressed with the number of pictures I kept looking them over, naturally. That might have got the attention of the two gentleman sitting in the opposite corner in the remarkably small dining area. This leads to a discussion and explanation of just whose cafe it was. Irwin Hasen put my turnover and coffee on the house and we met later inside the convention where he introduced me to Jerry Robinson. Fortunately for Jerry Robinson, it wasnt until later we I found out at a gorgeous exhibit that he was the king of art collectors. Fortunately for me, I went to that exhibit. Not worthy. but grateful.
