I think I have figured out what this piece amounts to. I recall showing it around, and I think Roy Thomas said it was nothing, just some nobodies tracing or something.
Didnt make sense to me, (look at it, why would someone trace roughs or use blue pencil to copy something?) but what do I know? Jack Squat.
Until I just reviewed some Don Heck prelims up for auction and noticed the considerable similarity.
It appears there was some Avengers X-Men story line across some of these issues, and Heck was involved with those on the X-Men side, as well as a couple of Avengers books amidst Buscema's staggering debut.
I feel pretty sure this is Heck, and I think it got copied from for the Buscema Avengers issue, not the other way around.

Thank you, Lee!

20 years ago, while visiting a friend, a visit to the arboretum or some botanical gardens was suggested. As it happened, an art museum adjacent featured a pulp cover exhibition. We walked in there on the last day, perhaps the last hour. Walking out was the most difficult thing to do. Thanks for reminding me of that incredible experience!
hahahah, I couldnt take my eyes off the lady to even notice the TV! thanks for distracting me, momentarily.
Indeed. I notice the character in that page is Skyman, not Spyman. There was a moment in 1982 when this story was likely published. It would be neat to see Ditko's take on Spyman!
starting to appreciate Sekowsky's ability to pack such a full page and his playfulness with gutters!
How interesting to see Jim Mooney signed and credited himself(?) as inker. Do you know anything about that?
