This is another dynamic watercolor by Nick that I reached out immediately to buy when I saw it. He dubbed this "Altercation" and it features a noir-ish look at a brawl in the '30s or '40s. Nick's experimental period since retiring from comics and illustration has been a joy to follow. He has added a level of cubism and impressionism to his fantastic style of rendering people and locations, which he uses to give his pieces their energy and emotion. I am captivated by the brawl in this one, straight out of an old b&w movie or something. I love it!

He decided to walk away after about 10 years of comics and pop culture-based illustration work to just do personal work and get back to enjoying what he does. Like many freelance artists, he just yearned for control to do whatever he wanted without all the input from others on how and what he did and just focus on the craft. So even though his published covers & film posters were some of the most incredible things around, he swore off doing them and only does what he wants now, which has been doing these small incredible daily paintings and teaching classes from time to time in LA. He is much happier now. :)
