DescriptionSOLD AT AUCTION FOR $914!Large 25x32" matted artboard w/pen and ink original art for Nov. 19, 1933 Sunday page that has been nicely hand-colored. Sunday page features total of 12 panels, including hand-lettered/colored title panel listing noted "Tailspin Tommy" artist Hal Forrest and writer Glenn Chaffin. Two panels before story feature image of "Early Birds" John Wilkins who discussed human flight in 1825. Second non-story "Progress Of Flight" panel has feature on World War I biplane Sopwith-Snipe, giving brief history of the airplane. Story concerns Tailspin Tommy and Skeets on African expedition, filming wildlife that includes crocodile w/"Ziczac" bird (likely an Egyptian Plover) and a leopard before stumbling on a mother lion and her two cubs. The next two panels show them running away from charging lion, back towards seaplane. Continuing on, they observe a "Spring Haas" (South African Springhare), Eland, Oryx and a "Bosch-Bok" (Cape Bushbuck). Seventh panel has aged text paste-over, o/w art is clean and Exc. Forrest has signed at lower right of art. Art is further enhanced by great custom matte created by artist Dan Makara, featuring collage style utilizing various "Tailspin Tommy" comic strip images and cartoons of the era. Neat display.
