Description
Thanks to a fellow collector and Dan Smith fan, Alex Bialy, I now know Jael original was published in The Philadelphia Record, March 4, 1928.
The original printed was very discolored with marks on it, so I cleaned it up and fixed the text.

Here is the text at the bottom:
Jael -
In Old Testament history she was the wife of Heber the Kenite, and slayer of Sisera com
mander-in-chif of the army of Jabin, King of Canaan. When his army was routed by Barak,Sisera fled and sought refuse in Jael’s tent where she covered him with a mantle and slew him.

I was first exposed to Dan Smith at Big WOW!. I was moderating an inking panel and asked each artists who their influences are. Mark Schultz was one of the artist, besides Wally Wood and Alex Raymond he mentioned Dan Smith. I had never heard of him but did some research online and downloaded a number of his pieces to use on the panel.
I was hooked on Dan's art, he is an amazing illustrator.
He was born Daniel Schmidt . In the late 1890s, he worked for Hearst organization and covered the Spanish-American War. From Hearst he joined the New York Herald for a short period then moved on to The World, where “for twenty years, he drew nearly all of the covers for the Sunday magazine of New York World.
His originals are rare and this is on of the best I have seen and BIG this one is 22x28. Another off the bucket list.

A really nice example (need another I have two for sale or trade) these were usually done as sunday supplement front pages fro  their fiction or general article magazine whcih is why the yare so big and he was syndicated a I have for tearsheets for one mine from a philadeplhis paper- This is a clsassic example of a biblical pinup a way Hearst got around blue nose editors in many communities - scanty clothing was all riht id it was for a historical woman especially one from the bible . Salome gets like 3 lines inthe Bible but has had lots of pictures done of her msotl ysans veils!

Congratulations
