Description
The general reaction to cover art that was not used is that it was replaced with one with better art. I do not think that is what happened here because the caption on the published cover makes no mention of Viet Nam. Viet Nam was a controversial topic at the time and Marvel probably did not want to draw too much attention.

I love the direction written on the side: "HANDSOME C.A. (JK TYPE FACE) where JK is obviously Jack Kirby.

GREAT cover!  And I agree with your assessment of why it was pulled.

Fantastic cover!! I htink you are right about why it was pulled-- Stan didn't need controversy over the unpopular war... as others have said published or not this is a home run in my book!!

I remember we discussed this. Such a great piece of art even tho I don't collect silver age marvel. If I did, it would be this stuff. They produced some great art. Congrats on owning this.

Wow! Publlished or not, this is one heckuva Captain America cover! Gorgeous work by Marie Severin and Frank Giacoia! I love Cap's pose here, leaping through the Viet Cong line while fending off bullets with his shield! And I think Severin did a pretty good job of giving Cap a "JK type face." The whole scene is filled with all the action a reader could ask for. Giacoia's inks are awesome here, really enhancing the sense of movement. Great pick-up, congrats!
