Description

The Heart of Juliet Jones was created in 1953 as competition to I, the leading soap-opera strip of the time. It is the collaboration of artist Stan Drake and writer Eliot Caplin.Drake received the National Cartoonists Society's Story Comic Strip Award in 1968, 1970 and 1972. Drake left the strip in 1989, and it was continued by Frank Bolle from 1982 through New Year's Day 2001.
The strip’s major characters experience romance, heartbreak and drama in the small town of Devon. Protagonist Juliet Jones is a smart, attractive, conservative woman in her 30s whose unmarried status attracts both wanted and unwanted romantic situations. She lives with her younger sister, Eve, an impulsive vivacious woman in her 20s. Sharing their modest yet comfortable home is their beloved father, Pop.
Frank W. Bolle is an American comic-strip artist, comic-book artist and illustrator, best known as the longtime artist of the newspaper strips Winnie Winkle and The Heart of Juliet Jones; for stints on the comic books Tim Holt and Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom; and as an illustrator for the Boy Scouts of America magazine Boys' Life for 18 years. With an unknown writer, he co-created the masked, Old West comic-book heroine the Black Phantom. Bolle sometimes used the pen name FWB and, at least once, F.L. Blake.
