I was sold when saw this Rip Kirby daily from September 20th 1950 :-)
It wasn't only the awesome artwork for shadows, reflections & shadings from the water, gents dresses but the dialogue too:

I'D ROW THE STYX!

Striking dialogue in this daily is simply perfect, and maybe echoing something from the past when father of hard-boiled detective novels, Dashiell Hammett wrote and Raymond drew & inked Secret Agent X-9. I guess Raymond learned then a lot about writing and dialogue, to be used later in his own Rip Kirby stories.
Also cleverly positions changed for the classical situation "do not fire until you see the whites of their eyes" (first time stated by William Prescott in Battle of Bunker Hill 1775); so the reader is now captured into the boat too, to be wondering is whites of own eyes now revealing something...? ;-) At least that there is Alex Raymond fan reading this.

Provenance of the artwork: earlier in the Al Williamson Collection.
