Description

Painting is 27 1/2” x 20”.

Painting from the series “Hidden Suns and the City of Fire”.

Double page spread, pgs 120-121, published in the book ‘The Art of John Harris: Beyond the Horizon’, by Titan Books, 2014.

I think this painting, probably more than any other in his series of the Hidden Sun, depicts the essence of John’s concept of a city built around the inside perimeter of an active volcano’s caldera. I love the atmospheric view with hot, steaming lava and the bridges and central rock promontory silhouetted against the detailed distant city.

Fantastic Harris example! Such a nice combination of straights and curves, and I love the high contrast in the foreground and subtle colors and hues in the distance. Gorgeous
