Description
Standard Oil of Ohio or "Sohio" was an American oil company, and the earliest component of the original Standard Oil company founded by John D. Rockefeller. Sohio was acquired by British Petroleum, now called BP. Sohio continued as a separate entity after the antitrust breakup of Standard Oil in 1911, It operated service stations under the "Sohio" brand name in Ohio. In other states, it used the "Boron"brand name instead, but with an otherwise-similar logo. Many stations had indoor electroliers (chandeliers) holding the electric lights which would operate by a pull string with this stiff cardboard advertising piece with Mickey on one side and Donald on the opposite side that would be pulled to turn the lights on or off. The hard handle disk measured 3 & 1/4 " across and was first used in 1940. This side pictures Mickey holding a sign which says "For EXTRA Service SOHIO ETHYL GASOLINE Unsurpassed". Has Sohio printed three more times around the edge and is signed by Walt Disney.
