Latest All-Star Squadron commission - issue #86. the second part of the Deathbolt trilogy, art by Brendon and Brian Fraim - based as always on the cover of an issue written by Roy Thomas, in this case Avengers #76.

As we saw in the last issue (or you will, once it's complete), Deathbolt infiltrated the Perisphere and took down a group of the heroes, retrieving something for his mystery partner. The Spectre, adversely affected and lacking many of his powers following his battle with the chaos-beast (shown in Annual #4) was also defeated, but is the only one to recover when other members of the Squadron arrive. The team split up to search for the villains, but as some of them confront Deathbolt, an announcement blankets the airwaves - all electrical power in New York will be blacked out, and America's war effort brought to a standstill, unless the government pays the villains a huge ransom!

To demonstrate, the power stops for a period of an hour, and while the heroes are busy saving lives, Deathbolt escapes. Drawing on his internal power, Robotman is able to track the disruption to the source, and a group of heroes set off to capture the villains - and as they arrive, Deathbolt's mystery partner is revealed ---- next issue.

Given the tendency Roy had at this stage to use literary and other sources to inform his stories, I couldn't resist using the later film "The Day The Earth Stood Still" as a bit of an inspiration here - hence the cover title.

... and I also couldn't pass up the opportunity to use Uncle Sam's hat to stand in for Captain America's shield!
