DescriptionIn 1991 and 1992, I was doing freelance work for Kitchen Sink Press, mostly retouching strips and laying out pages for the comic strip reprint books that Denis was publishing. One of the books that I worked on was a collection of Ray Gotto's wonderful Cotton Woods comic strip. After the book came out, I got in touch with Ray in late '92 and we corresponded for a number of years, with two visits to his trailer in Florida. In the course of our correspondence, Ray mentioned that he had created the familiar logo for the New York Mets, my favorite baseball team. I had grown up with that logo on cards, pennants, game tickets, Mr. Met, etc. Ray wrote me this letter in April 1993, giving some background about the logo contest that was held. He didn't mention it in the letter, but if I remember correctly, he told me that he won $500.00 in the contest. I think the Mets got themselves a bargain!Social/Sharing |
