DescriptionThis is the original art to p. 84 which contains a graphic murder scene of a hole being blown straight through some dude's head in an alley. The fourth panel shows the Joker looking at you right through the gaping hole as brain matter and blood are shown oozing from the decedent's head.Apparently that scene was too gory and gruesome for DC at the time so the original panel was replaced by a different angle of the Joker and the violent murder scene was censored and removed. Funny that that’s what did it for DC from a story filled with hookers, cocaine and gratuitous sex and violence. I guess editors and publishers have their limits and Azarello and Bermejo were pushing those limits back in 2008 way before the recent publishing "error" in Batman Damned. This is the only page I know of from the Joker graphic novel where the content was censored and changed so drastically from the original version to the published version. The art on this page is all original so I can only assume that the panel in the published version was inserted digitally. ________________________ I owned this page and regrettably traded it in order to seal a trade deal. I immediately regretted letting go of this page and I was fortunate enough to get it back recently. Now it's back home! Social/Sharing |

The decision to cut off that infamous panel seems to me even more ridiculous if I think that an even more gruesome image was published as the cover (and the horrifying front view as the back cover) of Hard Boiled #3, by Miller and Darrow for Dark Horse, in 1990! Congrats on having this unique piece back in your collection!
