DescriptionBack in November I contacted Chie Yoshii about a piece she was showing in Japan. The piece ended up being more than I was expecting so we decided on doing a commission instead. I had really liked the young woman that was in the other piece so I requested that Chie make another piece featuring her. We decided to add cherry blossoms and a beautiful Japanese bush warbler pattern to the Kimono. After the initial discussion Chie drew up a beautiful sketch and I requested that she simply change the hair to have it flowing over her shoulder like in “Caught in the Rain”. After that small change Chie began working on the painting. When she finished and sent me the photo I was blown away. She is absolutely breathtaking.I had been wanting one of Chie’s stunning pieces for a while and I couldn’t be happier with “Cherry Blossoms”. It has everything I wanted and is just phenomenal. Everything about the piece is fantastic. The Kimono Girl is so adorable. Just the way I like them. The whole piece has the beautifully serene feeling I love that always comes across in Kimono Girl pieces. The composition with the Cherry Blossoms and branches surrounding her is just perfect. I love the color scheme with the blues and greens predominant with the wonderful touches of pink to contrast. That warbler patten on the Kimono is just so wonderful and I love how she added the lilac flowers in her hair. It was a real pleasure commissioning Chie. She said painting this piece was a wonderful start to her new year. It always makes me so happy when the artist enjoys working on the piece since it always shows in the finished piece. I’m glad I finally commissioned her. Her work is always so outstanding and I’m very proud to have such a breathtaking piece in my Kimono Girl collection. Thanks, Duke. I loved how her hair was down in the other piece so as soon as I saw it up I asked for that revision. It makes all the difference. With the hair up she reminded me more of a Geisha and for my Kimono Girl pieces I try to steer away from them. I just like to have the Kimono Girls be ordinary ladies.
Thanks. I'm really proud of it. Always love hearing people's reactions. That's half the fun of sharing it.
