Disney loans Donald Duck to help Santa Claus

Song of the South Publicity Illustration Original Art (Walt Disney, 1946). "Zip-A-Dee-Doo Dah!" ... my oh my, what a wonderful lot! This hand-painted studio publicity artwork created to promote the Walt Disney Studio 1946 holiday season release of SONG OF THE SOUTH. Who better to promote this film than the reigning studio superstar at the time, Mr. Donald Duck! This film had a lavish studio premiere at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, on November 12, 1946.Rendered by "Walt's one man art department" Mr Hank Porter (1900 -1951). It's a great painting of Donald in his Santa hat, painting a toy Br'er Bear, with toys of Br'er Rabbit and Br'er Fox already finished.Trimmed and mounted photos of Johnny (Bobby Driscoll) and Ginny (Luana Patton) stand on top of a toy wind up music box. Donald making toys really showcases the timeframe of this films release. Painted in gouache on light board, framed to 17.5" X 21.5" with a mat opening of 9.5" x 12.5". I took the liberty to overlay the herald from the Pictorial Review movie drama section of the Seattle Post Intelligencer for December 22, 1946. This is what the cover looked like.
