DescriptionThis painting looks quite a bit different than the published card, so I am not 100% sure this is the actual card art and they just made changes to a copy of it for print or if it is just a first pass. The published card looks like they had him use white to cover some of it and for the hair. So this was either an unused piece he repurposed or the first draft and more like a prelim. I will try to find out, but I recognized it immediately as I do collect the Wildstorm Gallery paintings and have one of the others JKS3 did so I had to buy it when I found it and figured I would fully ID it later.UPDATE! I emailed the artist directly through CAF and got a reply almost immediately. "Hi Dave, Rest assured, the modified/revised Delphae card art was revised 100% by me. I had done a couple of Vampirella covers for Harris Publications around this time period, so I guess I just had the after thought to change the character into Vampirella after receiving the art back from Wildstorm. It seemed like a natural fit with the general setting/scenario and pose. So it was card art originally rendered and submitted as Delphae for the Wildstorm series, and then modified later upon the return of the art from Wildstorm into a Vampirella piece, though not intended or submitted for publication elsewhere in it's revised form. But to make it clear, it was originally 100% intended to be a Delphae piece, it was a complete afterthought after I had the piece back from Wildstorm that for whatever reason at the time, I thought it would be cool to turn it into a Vampirella piece(you'll note I added the bats later, too--she also has a distinctive Vampirella earring)." So there you have it folks, this is the published piece, and therefore the only original, but he changed it after the fact, added bats and more. So it really is more of an unpublished Vampirella piece at this point, but I am keeping it here and calling it Delphae anyway lol. Social/Sharing |
