DescriptionComics' favorable early results with its Black Panther character (Fantastic Four #52) prompted King Features' comic-book division to move Lothar, tribal African sidekick of Mandrake the Magician, into a solo-featured position. King was running about two months behind Marvel's progressive thinking, but the story, "Menace of the City Jungle," benefits from Lothar's imposing presence -- he already looked like a costumed superhero, anyhow. Heck's larger identification with the Marvel brand lends weight, and LeBlanc's inking has a decidedly Marvelesque quality.Social/Sharing |
