DescriptionThis is David Finch's first ever work on Batman... and a very impressive DPS at that! A one-shot crossover from Top Cow and DC in 1999, this issue features the only meet-up between the two title characters and this DPS reveals the first time the two characters meet. The art duties in this book were divided between the art teams of Marc Silvestri / Danny Miki and David Finch / Joe Weems. This DPS was done by David Finch / Joe Weems and is arguably one of the most impressive moments in the entire story. Finch really wanted to prove himself and showcase his artistic ability in this early work. This art is super impressive in person and is hanging proudly on my wall. I’m super excited to have it in my collection. No dialogue is necessary to see what is going on in this DPS. Jackie Estacado (The Darkness) pulls a gun on Batman and catches a punch to the face as a result. As The Darkness is laid out on the rooftop, this first meeting of the two characters is concluded. Darkness / Batman -released August 1999 Synopsis “Orphaned, alone in the night, he swore to avenge the murder of his parents. By day he plays the role of millionaire playboy, but as dusk falls he dons the mantle of the bat. He uses the shadows to strike fear in the hearts of criminals. He is Gotham City's protector and avenger. A mystery. An urban legend. The Detective. The Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. He is Bruce Wayne The BATMAN. Orphaned, alone in the night, his blood determined his destiny. Thrust into an eternal war, light against dark, he wields the most fearsome power ever known to man. He uses it to bring vengeance down upon the enemies of the only family he has ever known--the Franchetti Mafia. In the light of day he is mortal. At night he is a god. Chaos. Creation. Cursed Soul. He is Jackie Estacado The DARKNESS. Tonight they meet." Social/Sharing |

Very nice. I always thought this was silvestri
You can definitely see the Silvestri influence on this young Top Cow David Finch, but if you look closely (particularly at the Batman on the left splash), you can also see Finch's distinct style showing through. I think Silvestri's influence on Finch's style stuck with him throughout the years on his later work on Batman.

This is such a killer DPS! Great to see Finch do Batman so many years before really drawing Batman for his runs. This is epic!
