With Episode IX bringing a close to the third trilogy of the Star Wars saga, I thought I’d share some artwork from a Star Wars that “might’ve been”...

It’s true, it’s no longer canon but when Splinter of the Mind’s Eye came out by Alan Dean Foster in early 1978, wrapped in that AMAZING cover by Ralph McQuarrie, it was glorious! It would be another two agonizing years before another Star Wars movie would hit the screen and the appetite for more material NOW was insatiable. I read my copy to tatters.

In 1996, Dark Horse adapted it into a 4-issue mini-series with the always amazing Chris Sprouse handling the pencils and Terry Austin scripting and inking. Here are seventeen pages from that adaptation along with a couple model sheets, one for the Yuzzem and one for the Coway, two of the humanoid races seen in that early Expanded Universe novel.
