The 12 panel grid (or its absence from the page) is SO important in this outstanding book, especially in this introductory chapter. 12 months in a year, obviously, but also twelve 'unique' hours in a day (just repeated for 13-24) and here, with the main character trapped within her job and situation, the grid itself acts as bars to confine her. The only sense of escape she can achieve is letting those darn pigeons go (big panel! no bars!), but they always return to the roost, thwarting her desire for a permanent (albeit vicarious) escape of any kind.
I absolutely love this sequence in the book. Congrats on such a sterling example from it!
A fantastic page, easily one of the best from Volume 1. Congrats!
