DescriptionPer stamps on the back, this 1932 strip went back to the engraving dept at the Chicago Tribune in 1942 and again in 1946. Other Williams dailies have similar stamps, so I take it the Trib kept all the art, and at some point sold it off in bulk to someone. Now a big stack has found its way to Heritage, which dribbles them out every week. I've got a couple other Williams pieces, but when a group of four came up for auction that included this exquisite example, I had no choice but to triple my holdings. If OA valuation was purely based on drawing skill, Gaar Williams would be way out of my reach!Social/Sharing |

Welcome to the Gaar Williams Club, Aaron. I have a sweet stack of his panels myself. It is amazing think that he was so popular that the Trib continued to reprint his material long after his untimely death. Williams remains one of the great pen man in comic strip history. This is a particularly fine example. Congrats.

Great illustration and story. I too, just picked up a set of four from Heritage and have posted here.
