Description

When I received this piece it had a really terrible coat of gloppy, uneven varnish. Apparently it was some sort of acrylic varnish that plagues several early Bisely pieces originating from a single collection. So I took the piece to a professional art conservator, who specializes in painting conservation. Thankfully, she was able to safely remove most of the varnish using a painstaking process that included varying solutions of isopropanol, pH adjusted distilled water, and Shellsol D-38 rolled though handmade Japanese mulberry tissue. She further reduced the varnish with a scalpel to reduce the uneven thickness across the piece. Once the varnish was removed, she applied a very thin, spray application of dilute aldehyde resin varnish, which is fully removable.

It cost me a pretty penny and took several months to complete...but it was well worth it. The piece looks so much better. The first image of the piece is the "before".
