Description
Let me first start off by saying this is the first time I've drawn Melissa Benoist as Supergirl, especially from a screen cap for reference. Second, it's the first sketch cover that I've found to have regular magazine paper as its medium. It make it extremely challenging more so than regular stock card. The inks sat on top of the page and made it liable for smudges and fingerprints. Regardless, I rolled with it and I'm very pleased with the results. Etched with Microns, Copics, Prismacolor, and liquid gel, this is a beautiful representation of the Girl of Steel. I'm relieved that I managed to pull a Jim Lee with the white higlights swaying in the wind and the naturalistic shading with modest inking. The tunic matched the face in terms of difficulty; to get that pixelated texture required forethought and trial and error. After learning the hard way in the recent Spider-Woman cover project, I laid ALL colors down first, and then proceeded with microns so one wouldn't go into the other. In the end, accompanied by sky and clouds, I delivered a majestic pastel-esque representation of Melissa in character. While I don't follow the series, I can't deny Melissa has proven herself a capable actress and a survivor in her own right. Her inner beauty matches her lovely exterior and I can only hope that I've conveyed that on this medium.
