DescriptionAnother nice bronze add to the Black Panther (BP) collection with this recent Heritage auction win. Definitely glad to pick up another BP Bingham page (he does a great rendition – see my page from Iron Man Annual #5), and this time around, paired up with the great Gene Day!The page is from Marvel Premiere (MP) #51 but it was originally slated to be BP #16. The 3 part story in MP #51 – 53 was supposed to be BP #16 – 18 but the book was cancelled after issue 15. The work was apparently done, or at least some of it, so they end up publishing it about 7 months after BP ended in the pages of MP. Check out the top of the board. You can see the “Black Panther” title being crossed out prior to the board being cut. You can also see “#16” crossed out in the middle and ”51” written above it. Cool to have a little background actually on the board like that regarding the page’s publication :) Of course I’m glad they ended up putting it out, because again, I like Bingham’s BP…and I got a page out of it! Each panel here is actually a Bingham rendition of images originally from Jungle Action #19 by Billy Graham, as that story is being recounted in this scene. See additional published images for reference. I like the whole page but what sold me, unsurprisingly, was that bottom panel which was a DPS in Jungle Action #19. Just a great face forward shot and powerful pose of BP holding a bad guy in each arm against a zipatone backdrop! I gotta really credit Day here too with the bold inks and noting where he decides to go with thicker vs. thinner lines in that central figure. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I got the page in hand as the inks, particularly the spot blacks, had really held up even 40 years later. I definitely spent some time poring over it :) Thanks for looking, as always! Social/Sharing |

What a great page. It reminds me how much things have changed in this hobby since my earlier years. Back in the early 2000's, it usually took me months to sell Bingham BP pages from Marvel Premiere at a whopping $75/ea!

OK, suffice to say things have changed A LOT if these pages had been tough to sell at $75 a pop - I paid just little more than that this go around, while having to fend off other bidders :) Appreciate the comments, Ruben, and all!

Fantastic powerful BP half splash page! Just imagine, if the 3rd panel would be used as a complete splash page or a cover?! Congrats

Vik, if the 3rd panel wasd ever used as a cover , it would be one of the worst and least interesting covers of all time!
Yeah, yeah, I know you meant the 4th panel! 😁

Yup, I'm pretty sure too, Ruben :) Vik - thanks for the add! What's funny is that that last panel actually was a DPS initially when Graham drew it in Jungle Action - see the additional images. You got a good eye, man!

Like I told you, the best Bingham BP page for sale on Heritage so far. Thanks for pointing out the Graham connection, that's cool trivia ;)

Thanks fellow BP fan, and I'd tend to agree, no bias ;) It's definitely up there! And no prob regarding the Graham connection - was actually one of the things that I liked about the page as I recognized 2 of the images right away!

What a great page! That last panel is amazing but I love the others as well, especially the first one. Bingham is someone whose art I enjoy a lot.

Great bronze Panther pick-up! Three exciting action panels followed by a wonderful half splash. Thank you for sharing the story behind this piece's publication. It's a happy thing that they were able to find a place for that 3-part story and the gorgeous artwork associated with it.

Ahh, so it was you! Thanks, a LOT, man!! ;) I kid, but thanks for the comment - definitely happy with it now that it's in hand. Sorry you didn't get it...well...not too sorry :) And not the first time, huh?! I'll have to look through your gallery to see if I've been on the other side myself! Perhaps we should coordinate to ensure we (when I say "we" I mean "I") don't pay to much when we're (again, by "we're" I mean "I'm") bidding on something ;) Thanks, again, brother!

Only in the recent times? At least you outbid me for these 2 :-)..next time I'll just send you an email before doing any bidding ;-)...But again happy they are in the best home possible

Fighting with the speed and strength of a jungle cat. Makes me wonder how tough Calvin was to survive his childhood attacks.

WOW!! Sincere congrats, K! This page is incredible... Recap pages often give you the most "bang for the buck", and that certainly seems the case here... This is on par with some of John Byrne's outstanding recaps! :) Superb page - all panels - and that last half-splash... Uff-da! Awesome pick up - congrats!

"Uff-da!! Not sure if I've ever seen that spelled out, but yeah, it applies here I think :) I hadn't explicitly thought of recap pages being a good "bang for your buck" but you're right! Clearly the case here ;) And whenever you can mention being on par with JB...you're doing something right. Thanks for the great comments, Jason!

WOW!!! Incredible page that looks as amazing to me today as it did when I first saw the printed version in the mid-1980s. The Black Panther has always been a visually striking character, but Bingham brought him to a whole other level that combined both strength and gracefulness.
