Description
The Giffen/Dematteis Justice League was one of my favorite books growing up.
Chris Sprouse did all of the covers for the last issues of their run, with the exception of the last issue (60), which was done by the original artist From the run, Kevin Maguire.
Evidently Sprouse did the original version of the cover for issue 60. My guess is they decided last minute to have Maguire close it out instead, but Sprouse’s cover was so good, they decided to use the same concept and layout that he already did.
Compare it to the published cover.

Being a huge JLI ans Sprouse fan, this page is a rare treasure that I am very happy to have in my collection.

Great piece , I can't say that I've ever seen an unpublished cover that is so close to the actual finished used version, strange call to pay Maguire to turn in an almost identical version !

Thank you! Right!? Maguire came back to pencil this final issue of the Giffen/Dematteis run, so it would make sense to let him do the final cover as well. It just looks like they made the decision on the cover after Sprouse had already done a perfectly good one. There's things I like better about each of them. The Maguire cover obviously has his great trademark character expresssions, but I like the scale, proportions, and layout better for the Sprouse one.
