DescriptionThe Thing made one solo appearance with the Micronauts back in the glory days of the Bronze Age, but the full team up potential of these headliners was never explored to its maximum potential. As I have been known to do from time to time, I have taken it upon myself to commission a series of key scenes in a kind of faux 'what if' comic that never was, but should have been. This sequence fulfills the formal requirement that all team up stories must have the good guys - in this case, the Thing, Acroyear and Marionette - battle with each other before quickly sorting out their differences and turning their sights to a common foe. The perilous alpine setting was inspired by a well-known drawing by Frank Frazetta of Buck Rogers battling cave men at the edge of a steep cliff. The hypnotic collar around the Thing's neck is a throwback to the events of Marvel Two in One # 39. I set up this commission directly with Tom Derenick through his Facebook page when he opened up one of his commission lists. I had a very positive experience interacting with Tom and the art turned out great, if I may say so. I hope others will seek out a drawing of their own from Tom when the opportunity arises. Speaking of great toys. Micronauts has some awesome toys when I was a kid. That's if Baron Karza didn't take out your eye.
