Description
An homage to the great Gene Colan!

This is my recreation in oils of the 1966 Tales of Suspense #82 classic opening splash page : Iron Man vs Titanium Man !!! This page was originally drawn by my personal friend : the late, great, sorely missed Gentleman Gene Colan !!!!

Gene was a true wizard with the pencil. He often said that he felt that he painted with his pencil versus drawing with his pencil. A master of perspective from a myriad of difficult angles, Gene's drawings were standard references for his contemporaries. Plus Gene was a master of chiaroscuro, the art of depicting dramatic light and dark. He told me that he learned lighting from watching the 1940s black and white movies. Gene was an excellent teacher in his retirement also, mentoring many fine pencil artists. Gene's depiction of Iron Man remains a favorite for many fans of that series even to this day.

Nice recreation! You nicely altered the figures and background to give it your own personal touch, yet retained the dynamism of the original. Check out Jared Osborne's video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt_IEipB3cg for a look through The Invincible Gene Colan Art Book. I just watched this a few days ago for my first exposure to Mr. Colan. It is great to see your production lately!
