Rest in power
Great tribute, great wrtite up, and a great piece of art. You were actually one of the people I thought of when I heard the news last night. Knowing what a huge BP fan you are, I knew this would hit you hard. Unlike you, I don't have a lot of BP artwork. So I did the only thing I coudl think of, which was to crawl into bed, put on the movie, turn off the lights, and just watch an incredible performance by a very gifted artist practicing his craft under the most daunting circumstances. If that didn't make him a real life super hero, I don't know what would.
Thanks, man. Great idea, too, to sit back and watch Chadwick and team doing their thing on screen :) "Real life super hero" - apt description, to say the least. Appreciate the nice comments, Eric, and all.
Beautiful tribute bud! It just breaks my heart to see someone so talented and so young go so early :( I love this Cover, and how humberto worked his magic. Thanks again for sharing!
Such a cool looking cover for sure! Congrats!!!
You have written some amazing descriptions in the past my friend, but this one blew me away. Really beautiful. And such an excellent cover to use as a backdrop to your words. I hope Humberto gets a chance to see how his artwork played such an influential part in your tribute to that great man who we will greatly miss, Chadwick Boseman.
Appreciate that, Paul, for real. As soon as I heard the news last night I had a rush of thoughts and feelings and it took me a minute to lay it out. Sent a note to Joe Damon (Humberto's dealer), too, after I saw your comment. Just to let him know about the post. He had read it :)
Wow! Outstanding cover. Congrats
Excuse me while I swear but by god that's a great piece. Zounds!
RIP. Great cover!
Great tribute to Chadwick and BP, it resonates all the more in these turbulent times. Fantastic cover too!
A wonderful encapsulation of why Chadwick Boseman was such an impressive man and artist. His heart was as big as his work. RIP
Great tribute K. Thank you for your words. RIP
The last time I felt as I did when the news of Chadwick's death came over the tv, I was staring at a headline telling me David Bowie had passed away. In both cases I was completely stunned, as I never even knew either men had been ill. I quickly learned, again in both cases, that they had been ill for quite some time, but somehow managed to keep the illnesses a secret from the world at large because they didn't feel the need for attention nor for others to feel sorry for them. One would think that in those circumstances, they'd want to feel the love and adoration from all their fans across the world, to feel that adulation one last time, but not for these two men. For them, they were content to fight their illnesses for as long as they could with only a few of their closest family members and friends being made aware. I stand in awe of that. In Bowie's case, I rationalized it by telling myself, "At least he had a good, long life.". But in Chadwick's case I can't even say that, because while it certainly was good by all accounts, it most definitely was far too short, and that's why the news is hitting me even harder this time. I just finished watching 42 and I'm numb from the realization that the world has already lost such an immense talent and a fine young man. I really don't have anything to say about the art this time. I knew you'd post a tribute and wanted to comment to it.
Thanks, Ruben. I'd like to think that these gentlemen, in spite of their illnesses, wanted to experience and exhibit and push a positive energy - much easier said than done and I commend both for that. As you say, stand in awe.
The art is simply perfect and this is a wonderful cover by Ramos. Congrats! Thanks for the emotional description, which makes this piece more special.
Fitting tribute --the world has lost an immense talent and a real stand-out human being, RIP King!
Well done,K.
Nicely written and cool piece of art.
We spoke about it together and I told you this cover was for you.
#Wakandaforever
We did, man..and you did :) Thanks for the comment. #Wakandaforever
Nice one!
You know I always appreciate your descriptions, comments and thoughts and this one was very well said and truly heartfelt. There was no better person to portray Black Panther and what an even better human being. The world lost a tremendous talent and as comics fans we lost a king.
Appreciate that, Kent, and I couldn't agree more regarding his portrayal and our collective loss. Though time was short it was time well spent, to say the least, and his legacy will endure. A shining example he left. Thanks, man.
Congrats on the beautiful cover and great text.
Beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman! We lost a hero and an icon.
Great Art from Great Artist. And you got it helping a charity cause. Doesn't get better than that.
Great pick up, K! I'm a big proponent of villains but I have to respect the Marvel Universe Black Panther. Love the character and his portrayal. And I really love the MCU Black Panther brought to life by Chadwick Boseman. He truly was a man that could rule a nation with honor, wisdom and empathy for the well-being has of his people. And this is all thanks to the supreme acting abilities of Mr. Boseman. I can only dream of how much grander the Black Panther could have become if Chadwick had more time on this Earth.
Just a great tribute to the late actor and cultural icon Chadwick Boseman. I can feel the raw emotion in your words. How much he meant to you and what he represented. He knew taking on the role of Black Panther was more than just another movie role. It was to show the regal side, leader of Wakanda in a technologically advanced society. Holding Marvel accountable and not letting them white wash strong minority characters like the studio did in other movies. On his free time, Chadwick was often shown supporting charitable causes. Visiting sick children at pediatric hospitals. Never letting on that he himself was diagnosed with cancer. Time is more important than money. The man knew he had little time left yet chose to spend his time at these hospitals. As far as the art is concerned, I didn't even recognize it as Humberto Ramos. The detailed but light feathery brushwork takes his art to the next level. The fact that Humberto donated this cover for charity is fantastic. Chadwick would have approved. R.I.P.
Nelson, appreicate all the great and kinds words, really. You said it all. Our heroes take many forms. Thanks :)
Wonderful page..and great tribute my friend!! Nice words as always
For good reason they say Wakanda. Forever!
Again, I'm late to the party. Sorry. And I don't know what poetry I can add to what all the above posters have already laid out so clearly and correctly - Chadwick Boseman impacted us all as a man, and through his talent affected us all as a king. Add my voice as another in the chorus expressing sadness at an extremely untimely passing, admiration for a beautiful piece of art, and commendation for your touching, fantastic words of tribute. Masterfully done, K. Rest in peace, Mr. Boseman.
No sorry necessary, Jason - thank you for the kind words. I know you and I have gone back and forth on BP a few times. Mr. Boseman's contributions to the mythology and in general will definitely live on. Thanks again, man.
Man, so good. Love the content and love seeing how Ramos takes on proportions in his character drawings.
Life is fleeting. Take it all in. Be positive. Be kind.
That's as deep as I'm going on here.
Did I mention that I think I may be a mutant?
Great cover and somber, sobering reason for sharing. It was such a heartbreaking story hearing the news of Boseman's passing. This title started out as a real fun read. Bravo buddy!
Brilliant cover
A very personal, heatfelt, thoughtful, and moving tribute. I know the world moves so fast these days, and everyone moves on so quickly from one piece of news to the next, but I don't think the loss will be forgotten anytime soon. I realize that as someone who was a Black Panther fan "before it was cool", when the whole world hadn't yet fully taken notice of the character, it might be that much worse for you, particularly given the promise of the first movie and thinking of what might have been. The cover is a beautfiul piece that makes a fitting tribute, bested only by what is written below it. And I certainly hope everyone takes to heart what you said about taking stock of what's truly important in life, as that perspective is so important. It's all very eloquently expressed, and tributes like this one will certainly help keep the memory of Chadwick alive and burning brightly for many years to come.
Thanks SO much for the kind words. I'm glad my description in remembrance of Mr. Boseman resonated with you as it did. As you say, his loss won't soon be forgotten, and for my part I continue to try to appreciate those things I really do need to be appreciating day to day. Thanks, again, and I hope all is well with you!
Superb! Wakanda Forever...Boseman RIP.
Awesome Ramos tour de force !
Wonderful rendition. It's hard to believe it's been a year.
This piece of history deserves to be in a collection like yours.
Killer piece, hat down !
