Description

This is a sketch from Alan Jim Hanley that he gave to a fan. It includes a self-caricature of the artist, as can be seen by the ink well and brush (plus it looks like him). A free-lance caricaturist by day, Hanley could churn out an interesting sketch in record time.

Hanley was a key pioneer of the small press, creating some of the first independently produced comic books. In 1966, he self-published Comic Book #1, and 6 more issues were produced of this fanzine through 1976.
