DescriptionIt is not easy coming by these Wenzel splash pages. Much thanks to Jay L. for the patience with this addition to my collection. Starhawk had an epic battle with Michael in Avengers 168 (drawn by Perez and Marcos) where Michael killed him and then re-formed him. As a child reading the 168 issue, this was rather dramatic. By issue 176, Starhawk no longer had cosmic awareness of Michael. Jim Shooter and David Michelinie wrote an excellent story here as Shooter had transitioned into his new role as Marvel's EIC.Addendum: Since I posted this page many years ago without much fanfare, a sub-set of original art collecting has taken hold of our 'investment' hobby now. Without identifying the numerous collectors who have elevated birth and first appearance original art pages to all time highs, this page is from Wenzel's first opportunity to draw Starhawk in a splash page. This one is a stretch, but it seems to hold some mettle as a "First something". As a result, I changed the title heading now that I have moved this to my Featured gallery section. Social/Sharing |

I'm glad this splash found a good home with another true late-1970s Avengers fan. Nice bold Iron Man pose and great assortment of secondary characters on the splash. Sweet!

This is an amazing splash: the layout, the inking, the backgrounds, the storyline. Absolute Marvel Bronze Age magic. Your tastes in pursuing comic OA are just exquisite.
