DescriptionTAD Dorgan and Hype Igoe (1877-1945) were childhood friends who went to high school in California together and were taught art by the same teacher. They started in the cartoon business together in San Francisco before Jimmy Swinnerton brought them to New York in 1905 to work for Hearst. They continued their careers, though Igoe ultimately moved into writing, becoming, as Damon Runyon said, the best boxing writer in the business. This is an early (circa 1910) joint specialty piece sent to a mutual friend in San Francisco. I love Dorgan's early dogs and this is just a cool association piece.Social/Sharing |
