I really dig Tom's Star Wars work. It's fun stuff. Go check out his comicartfans gallery, I'll wait. Back? Cool stuff, eh? Anyway, I tried a few months back to buy mixed media Obi-Wan that Tom had done on brown paper, but someone beat me to it. I decided I'd try to commission something later on. Cut to April 2006 - I was headed to the Dallas Comic Con. My main mission... a Tony Harris sketch. I was really broke at the time, so I scraped up enough for the Harris piece and maybe another crazily inexpensive sketch or two. I knew Tom would be there but there was simply no way I could afford both Harris *and* Hodges, so I figured I'd just commission Tom privately. However I foolishly didn't check the layout for where the artists would be set up and Tony wasn't sitting where they usually put the "big" artists, so by the time I found him his list was full. Bah. But then I remembered that Tom was there - no point putting off my Hodges commission any longer! I still wanted an Obi-Wan but asked for him to be drawn in his Clone Wars armor - that's just a cool visual to me. I love how intense yet innately noble he looks here, obviously overseeing his Troopers in battle. So despite not getting the artwork I initially went to the show for, I'm perfectly happy with what I came home with instead. Pencils, inks and markers on 11" x 14" Bristol.
