Description#jonathanmarks is not only a talented artist and imaginative storyteller—but he’ll also reply to your insta messages, including listening and working with your commission ideas; these days, great on-line customer service can go a long way. this art piece began with me casually interviewing jonathan which characters he liked to draw; so that kicked off my research of his art online and at a local comic store, where i purchased various issues of his previous work for #marvelcomics, such as death of wolverine – the logan legacy, savage wolverine, and secret wars journal; as an aside, one of his current completed projects is mariner, an ancient rime… filled with his sublime art; . for me, the joy of commissioning an artist is also about doing research and producing an inspirational creative brief that should empower the artist to create a great piece of work; i first commissioned an artist in my early teens, through #dougsulipa via his legendary brick-and-mortar store #comicworld, eisner-award nominee #georgefreeman (e.g., captain canuck, jack of hearts, and the avengers)—and this project resulted in a large #conan mixed media art piece; i vaguely recall research that included the final piece should channel #barrywindsorsmith’s conan art, plus i think i did some kind of a sketch and some casual textual description of sorts; . next, from that collection of knowledge about jonathan’s thoughts and art, i photographed some comic panels and gathered some of his existing online art that i thought can work as a narrative piece; then i submitted my research findings to him and described the look and feel i was aiming for; although my creative brief was detailed, i ensured that my outline was very much open to his interpretation—and this is imperative for an artist to be given the freedom to execute their vision; . thus, as illustrated, jonathan’s execution is amazing, such as #elektra’s expressive fingers gripping her sword as she prepares to attack; and #wolverine, though present with full of strength and ferocity, is a secondary figure to elektra; his lose, yet striking draftsmanship is akin to artists such as bill sienkiewicz and stuart sayger; although the finished piece is purely all jonathan’s artistic and imaginative, narrative skills; plus his colors are a subdued that compliments his eye-catching rendering; . hoping to revisit him soon for an upcoming piece; ensure to visit jonathanmarksart.com on a large screen to see all his majestic art; . #artcommission #narrativeart #narrativeartist #makeminemarvel #makeminemarks Social/Sharing |

Wow! Wow! Wow! What an extraordinary commission by Jonathan Marks! I love this image of Elektra--Strong and determined. I appreciate that Jonathan gave her strong arms to wield that katana. The Wolverine is cool too--I like his fierce expression and the sense that he is going into full berzerker rage. I love the limited color palette Jonathan has used here, the watery reds and subtle yellows against the black inkwork. I am blown away by all the research and thought you put into this commission. Most commissions are just rough ideas like, "Wolive and Elektra" for instance, but nothing more. You, it seems, thought deeply about what you wanted both in content and style. It's not surprising you got such a terrific result! Congrats!
