DescriptionReading comics in the 70's, there were dozens of young artists honing their craft as well as veterans putting out the best work of their careers. But few artists really lit me up quite as much as Wrightson.His work checked all the right boxes for subject matter and as far as technical virtuosity he just had it all over the competition. His Marvel work was terrific but was eclipsed by his DC stuff, and then by the time he went on to Warren he was untouchable. Man, I loved his work! (Still do. Always will.) In 2004 I had the pleasure of meeting him and Liz for my first time at a small horror convention in San Francisco. (I flipped out when I saw him on the guest list!) I knew from his reputation that I wouldn't be disappointed and sure enough they were as charming and sweet as I'd been hearing over the years. They listened patiently as I went on and on about how much I enjoyed his work, all things he'd heard a zillion times before from fans far more articulate than this schmuck. I know I gushed. Every October I break out his comics and just immerse myself in the gloriously macabre (and often funny) stories that got me through some of the roughest years of my life. I'm forever grateful and if I have any regrets it's that I didn't gush even more when I had the chance. Here's to Bernie Wrightson, Master of the Macabre and just a wonderful human being... Yeah, don't be fooled by the dark subject matter he's known for. This guy was as bright and as sunny as anyone I've met in the comics industry. Actually can't remember a time when I didn't walk by him that he wasn't smiling with fans. This piece is incredible Hiro. All that broken glass is just insane! I've always wanted a true Wrightson. I only have the partial Superman piece that Mignola finished, but I would love something like this. Big time congrats buddy!

Thanks, man! What you're looking at here is a Photoshopped composite image. The artwork exists on three separate boards and I just superimposed them, tweaking the color to mimic the 3-D effect of the hologram. When I get a chance I'll set aside the time to channel my inner-Ray Zone and make a proper red-blue anaglyph version. This is just a quickie I wanted to get out there before Halloween.

I have akways loved the way Wrightson drew (werewolves) and this is obviously a fantastic example of that.
