DescriptionCurrently one of the prized pieces in the amazing collection of Mr. Scott Williams.
I’ve gotten many wonderful compliments from the fine people of CAF about my collection/gallery. All giving me credit for being smart enough to buy all the pieces I bought way back when. Well, now I’m about to show you all what an absolute idiot I was. Keep in mind that many of the pieces that currently reside in my collection came from these very same catalogs. So the next time you want to call me a genius for all the pieces I did buy back then, just take a look at some of the rubbish I DIDN’T buy! In other words, this is the collection I COULD‘VE had. (Somebody shoot me now! LOL) What is very interesting to note here is that during this 9-year span of catalogs (1984-1993), there is nothing here that is priced over (or anywhere near) $1000. Actually (with the exception of the Killing Joke page), nothing even breaks the $500 range. Absolutely incredible for pieces that could all easily be five figures (or more) today! By the way, I’ve got dozens and dozens of these. So I’ll be posting them in chunks from time to time (to prolong the torture). Social/Sharing |

This is the first old catalog image you've posted that seems surprisingly expensive to me for the time. How is it that the cover to Moon Knight 1 would fetch $500 in 1988 if Miller DD covers and classic covers from the Golden, Silver, and Bronze Ages were going for less? Don't get me wrong, I should have bought it at the time...

Was waiting for someone to notice that, and I completely agree. When I saw the price for this 1988 listing, the first thing I noticed was that the cover for the very next issue was listed 5 years later for $150 less. Not to mention the price comparison to Miller art, plus all the great Silver and Bronze Age stuff. Granted it's one of the most iconic covers from the run, but you're right. Surprisingly expensive.

I checked Amazon and they sold out of time machines when I started posting these old ads. LOL! Anyway, glad you are loving/hating the posts. Thanks for the comment and please stay safe.

You have memory loss! You need to see a doctor about it. Might be serious. Doctor Who? Let me think. The name will come to me in a minute. That reminds me. Can I borrow your time machine when you are finished with it?

i was telling a buddy that in the 70s-80s you can purchase a frazetta oil for about $20K usd, which is now $1m usd; but that was big money back in those days; like the average annual salary was probably about the same; so, this 500$ was still a sizeable amount in 1988 too;
artist scott williams owns this cover, which i'm sure he also got a free copy of idw ae marvel covers haha
