Description

This sketch is very special to me and I want to ensure it's meaning gets represented. This was a gift to me from Henry Huie, a prominent comic book art collector. I met Henry at the restaurant he owned and operated with his brother Sam: Sam's Deli Diner in Katy, TX. My family and I were regular customers at his restaurant. He treated us as familiar friends and we'd talk regularly while he worked at the grill. One day, we ended up on the topic of comic books and comic book art. He shared that he once had a very large collection of comic book art, most of which had been sold off. When I listed my favorite current artists, one of the people I named was Frank Cho. He said he knew who he was and enjoyed his work too. In a later visit, he stepped away from his grill and said he had something for me. He came out from the back and showed me a sketch book with this Frank Cho piece in it. He had gotten it from Frank at Lone Star Con, 2002, which ironically is around the same time I started buying Liberty Meadows and Learned about Frank's work. Henry handed it to me and said to keep it. I was speechless! Sadly, Henry passed suddenly in 2014. I'll always cherish this piece of art... it represents the the memories of our conversations, his generosity and friendship, and fine artistic taste of a man gone too soon. R.I.P., Henry!
