DescriptionI am pleased to be able to add this daily to my collection. I think it is a great example of Caniff's more mature comic style that would carry him through the rest of his run on Terry and into the early years of Steve Canyon. The dialogue is fantastic and pure Caniff drama. The images of the Dragon Lady are smokin'...literally. The third panel with a Chinese junk is the icing on the cake for this daily for me. By this point Caniff had stopped using the blue wash he was known for early in his career and these dailies are a few inches wider and a bit taller than the earlier ones. You can see a line running through about and inch and a half above the lower border and this was done because some papers printed with smaller size allowance and so artists had to plan for either format. In some papers that bottom portion would not see print and in others they would. I believe the line was removed on the printing plates if the full size was to be used. I have seen this as common practice in other strips of this era but never really looked into exactly when they all did this, perhaps it was for only a short time. Something to look into. It is my understanding that this piece was an attic find somewhere in Italy where it was found along side two Jungle Jims.Social/Sharing |

Usually I am on the otherside of this scenario but this time I got lucky. Who says insomnia has no upside?

Great strip! The writing is so compelling--And the art is amazing! That third panel is a knockout!

See Jeff, I'm not the only one fascinated by a beautifully illustrated junk! 😉

Beautiful add to the collection. It's a strong example of Caniff's brushwork at the end of his Terry run. And that it includes the Drangon Ldy is the icing on the cake.
