The good old days (from 1993 catalog)

Interesting--$1900 was definitely not cheap back then.  Expected to see a lower "ouch" price here (but still--ouch!).

Yes, it would be interesting to know where the trigger point was for these "new" higher prices.  But there's no catalog "trail" for Ditko like there was for artists like Kirby or Buscema.  For example, there's a Kirby Cap cover from the 1984 catalog for $125, but a Kirby Cap splash from a catalog the year before this one is $500.  That's a pretty decent hike for an 8 year span.  I think the early 90's saw the start of the market boom.  But it would have been nice if we were able to track Ditko prices from the mid 80's to this 1993 price.  Yes, it's a ton of money.  But Silver Age art was so grossly under valued throughout the 80's.  Relative to what Ditko prices are today, I still think this $1900 is deserving of an "ouch".  If you don't think so, there's a page on a certain art dealer's website for 90k.  How's that for an OUCH?

Not to mention the few that are out there but not on sites with $250-400k price tags. Some are NFS at ANY price!

6-figure Ditko pages.  Yikes!  Oh well, at least it makes the next Ditko page I'm posting for $2800 look like a real bargain.  Thanks so much for the input West.  Take care and stay safe.

You think so?  Would be interesting to see how an influx in supply would affect the Ditko market.  I'm not so sure it would respond the way you predict.  Look at the Miller market.  People were hording that stuff back then, but even when the market topped out and people were trying to cash in, the prices held.  And there's WAY more Miller art than Ditko art.  Also keep in mind that a good chunk of the art may have been lost, stolen, or destroyed.  Today, there are a number of issues that are totally unaccounted for.  Do they even exist?  There's not as much out there as you think.

I read an interesting article years ago on all the theft that was stolen from the Marvel art storage facility. The art is out there. No doubts on that. People are just scared to put it in the open because it was stolen. Like all those stolen Bolland Dredd pages. They exist. Some paranoid, bunker dwelling, trigger happy collectors have them. Lol.

I forgot to say that a few people are still sitting on vast amounts of Miller art and only releasing it in trickles, so they do not kill the market. Supply and demand. Like gold. Sit on it and wait till prices to go up before selling it. Cynical but true. Its the way the world works.

Its not the greatest Ditko page so you did right to pass. Lol.
