I know nothing of Gold Digger. Well, I know it's done by Fred Perry, and published by Antarctic Press. But I've never read an issue, and never cared to, except for this story. See, back in 2005ish, 2 of my friends were aspiring comic book creators. Antarctic held a contest that allowed for fans to create their own summer/swimsuit stories and submit them for potential publication. Now, my buds weren't actual fans, but they were opportunists, so they went to work writing and drawing this one. Edward, the artist, didn't have the money to buy the typical boards that the professionals draw on, so he penciled this on a little thick stock paper. He then traced it onto vellum, which he inked. Then, he made copies of the inked pages, and mailed those to Antarctic. So the originals never left his possession...until recently. On my birthday, he gave me one of the original pencil pages. He kept the inked page. The final published page has some minor changes to the original pencils, which is interesting. I'm very thankful that Edward gave me this. I know it took some sacrifice for him to give up part of his only published comic book art. He and Pablo are both now pursuing film rather than comics, but artistic talent lends to good storyboarding, and writing talent lends to good storytelling. Wish them luck!
