DescriptionWhen my wife and I were married, I bought her as a wedding present this beautiful Bob Burden commission - partly as an honest and true admission of what she was getting into, partly as a last-minute warning shot across the bow; a “get out now or forever hold your peace” type of thing.Luckily, she is made of sterner stuff and did not frighten away so easily. Either that or she just didn’t believe me. Whichever it was, I’ll take it, forever grateful to both her and Bob. :) (Very large size; about 14x22) Social/Sharing |

I'm not gonna pretend I understand the Phil Collins joke here, or the mini Honest Abe, but I've always loved the wackiness of Flaming Carrot and to give something this zany to your wife for your wedding gift tells me she must be as cool as you are, otherwise this gift would've caused her to divorce you by now!

"Ah if she called me I'd be there
I'd come running anywhere
She's all I need, all my life
I feel so good if I just say the word
Su-Sussudio"
"Four score and 7 minutes ago. We, your four fathers, were brought forth upon a most excellent adventure. Conceived by our new friends. Bill and Ted. These two great gentlemen, are dedicated to a proposition. Which was true in my time. Just as it's true today. 'Be excellent to each other and....PARTY ON DUDES!!!"

HA! Thanks, Ruben! There had been an issue where FC had found a miniature Abe Lincoln who was going around saying "Su-Su-Sudio" and my wife thought that was pretty hilarious, so Bob kindly offered to "re-enact" that here (as all the original pages were gone). I'll add it to the pile. ;) I can't explain, justify, or believe how I got so lucky, spouse-wise; it's almost as perplexing as the whole "miniature Abe Lincoln" thing... Thanks (as always), Ruben (and all)!

Any good marriage is based on love, trust and a high fiber diet, so this was a good idea for a wedding gift.
But damn you for getting Sussudio stuck in my head ;)
Thanks for sharing this awesome piece!

It would have been crazy if our wedding had the theme of ' No Jacket Required', right? But it was outside on leap year day, so we needed rain gear. She wore a white slicker, I wore a black slicker, and most everyone else clustered in the park shelters... (then we took over the city swimming pool!). I wish I had known you all then - you'd totally have been invited! Next time! (Er, wait...) Thanks so much, Rick (and everyone) for your kind comments!

You've gotta be kidding me -- still more from some hidden stash of indie goodness. Congrats, on several counts!

A very fun & personal one, thanks for sharing.
If I was in your place, I would either not be married or would never hear the end of it to this day ;)

This has to be the best wedding gift that anyone has ever given to their spouse. I'm going to need to have a long talk with my wife about how she came up short when we got married.

Thanks, Michael! One funny thing was that Bob had called my workplace (an Aquarium) to finish setting everything up, and my wife (who was also working there for a time) had answered the phone. I was giggling like crazy for an hour afterwards and had to work very hard to not say something like, "Do you know who you just talked to?" and spoil the surprise. Working at the Aquarium, I was talking with Bob about a follow-up commission that would be an octopus-themed Flaming Carrot piece (that was a riff on Frazetta's 'Sea Witch'), but it never materialized, alas. Thanks, Michael, for your very kind words.

This is so wonderful and bizarre! Your wife can't say she didn't see it coming. :-) I love the story and the art. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Everything about this is wonderful. The Flaming Carrot wouldn't be my first choice as a wedding commission but Bob really knocked this out of the park. Ut!

Who knew that tiny Abe was such a big Phil Collins fan? And you clearly made an excellent choice in wife (and commission :)). Flaming Carrot was such a weirdly awesome character, I always got a kick out of his wierdling adventures. Ah, the wave of nostalgia washes over me. Congrats on all fronts!

Just think... now there's a naked miniature Abe Lincoln running around, out there, somewhere...

What a lovely story and artwork! You and your wife were clearly meant for each other. Bob Burden is a singular talent.
