Description
In 1983 (pages done in 1982) I met Michael Golden at a Anaheim Comic convention @ the Disneyland Hotel. This was my 4th favorite page from this amazing comic. I had the 4 pages in my hand, and asked Michael if he would take $300 for the 4 of them. He said, I'll take $300 for 3, so I put this page down even though it had the Defenders in it. I countered, if I buy 3 will you do me a sketch. He agreed (see Wolverine attached). I bought page # 1 (the splash) and what I thought were the other two best pages from the issue. I sold the my 3rd favorite page for $150 at the Shrine that same year, I sold my 2nd fav for $175 and kept the splash for another year thinking what a great deal I got. Later when the want to date beckoned I sold the splash for $300 @ SDCC (I was very proud of myself). Now ...not so much, at least I still have the commission and the memory and now this. : ) so, that does make me happy. Thank you Mike!!

Simply a splendid page from one of the best books Golden ever worked on.

Austin was no stranger to the great result of course (even though Michael would probably object?).

Did you meet him at a con? He was notorious for not attending many in those days :)

Yep- he was my first stop and I asked about originals before anyone else did.

A page from "the best drawn book of the '80s"?  With the Defenders? Picture me jealous!

Great story Kirk...but you cannot imagine my jealousy at not having access to shows and artists like that in 1983! All we had around Milwaukee were small comic shows at bowling alleys lol. Glad you got the page back! It's a beauty!

Yeah, I could trade those "kick myself" stories with you all day long buddy.  Not sure what the other three pages were, but with that bottom Defenders panel, I know which my favorite would be even without looking.  Congrats on getting it back.  Second chances don't get much better than this.

Hmmm... I'll have to revisit, but this may be my favorite page in the book.

OMG- that last panel!  This is like Sophies Choice. 4th best page?  Imagine if Mike had done a Defeneders Annual like he did Avengers. What might have been.

Those 80s one-shot issues Golden did were a feast of wonderful visuals, none more so than in this Doctor Strange story.

This book single handedly made me a Dr. Strange fan.  JUST amazing work, glad it's in great hands!

Congrats on finally acquiring this page! It's funny how a lot of us sell the more expensive pages but hold onto the less expensive sketches, like you did with Wolverine. I've owned one page from this book in the past and every page is a masterppiece by Golden and Austin!

i loved Golden's run on Doctor Strange. he gave the book a mystical atmosphere to it and Austin really complemented his work.
