What a nice setting setter of a page. The exterior transition to the interior close ups in the panels and then a pull back to a large interior from a high vantage point.
Yes! Thank you for leaving a comment. The sequence and angles, especially the high vantage point in the last panel, can be found in Alfred Hitchcock's artistic language and I love seeing them in ink. There are a lot of little gestures in this that amaze me as well such as the weight of the flow of whisky striking the side of the glass, the strain of the facial muscles when drinking from the glass and the minimal brush strokes that clearly convey the sports game on the television.
Yes, as Marcus says, the camera movement is really splendid! It's great to see some collectors find appreciation in the beauty of "quiet" pages like thi one, which contain no costumed heroes at all. That's art for art's sake! Really enjoy seeing the presentation, too. Thanks for the kind words, Patrick, always a pleasure.
Hello Rubén, Thanks for dropping by. The way that I see it, I have to go through 1000 pages of costumed heroes to find a page like this. It is the same as when I was a kid and I used to sift through the stacks of comics and magazines at a used book store looking for treasure. I've been lucky to find treasure twice because of you and Mike Perkins (this Swamp Thing page and the noir Lois Lane pages). Cheers!
Love this atmospheric and moody page! Perkins's work on this series was outstanding
