DescriptionIn late 2011, I bought the original art to the cover of Infinite Crisis #7 by George Perez. I got it for a steal because the seller was hit by Hurricane Irene and needed the funds. I am sure the money helped. In late 2014, it was my turn to need some funds because I was going to get married in 2015. The cover had to go. I sold it through auction site Comiclink and in just 3 years, the item sold for three times my original purchase price. The return went a long way to help me financially. But being such a big Perez fan, I had to keep a Perez example. And I kept this prelim that accompanied the cover. Just like the original cover art, the prelim was not signed. It was just gathering dust in my portfolio folder. This year, I thought about having it signed. So I sent an email to Perez's rep, Spencer Beck, who then redirected me to Stevos Collectibles since he would be seeing Mr. Perez. The prelim was just figures with no rendering or detail whatsoever. It doesn't quite look like Perez's work. I said I'll pay for the autograph, for the shipping, and for the trouble even if Mr. Perez will disown this piece since it might not have been his work, or he would not remember it anymore. Well, it turns out Perez had no trouble recognizing it! He signed it on top in script. He personalized it. In the left corner box, he also put his artist's signature. And he added an inscription that it was a Cover Design Sketch for the Perez Variant. There was also no option of authentication or encapsulation, but I didn't really need that. I said I'd be happy with a picture of Perez holding the art. And he gladly obliged. If you check the additional images, you can see what it looked like before it was signed. It is also interesting how Perez conceptualized it to connect with Jim Lee's variant cover, but we know it didn't happen. For easier reference, I am including in the additional images the scan of the original art, Perez's cover, and Jim Lee's cover. In the end, George Perez's art has helped at least twice. First was to the seller who needed the funds to help her Hurricane Irene damage. Second was to help me in my wedding. The original cover art may be long gone from my possession, but I am happy I kept the prelim, and even happier that it eventually went back to Perez who got to sign, dedicate, and inscribe it. Thank you, George Perez! Social/Sharing |

Infinite talent, Infinite generosity! Perez is a class act and a great in all of comicdom. Which is probably one of the reasons why that published cover is worth so much. Love the story and connection to this!
