Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas Jack Skellington Concept Art (Touchstone/Walt Disney, 1993). Early concept art/storyboard production artwork of Jack Skellington who who becomes completely unraveled, and in a frenzy spins his desk chair in desperation. A fantastic set clearly depicting the “action” and movement!. Skellington, the main man in a town called “Halloweentown” stumbles through a portal to “Christmas Town” and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences. The art is rendered in heavy thick graphite with each individual piece measuring about 8.5″ x 5.25″. This stop-motion masterpiece was the first animated film to receive an Academy Award Nomination for Best Visual Effects! The Art is in fine condition, newly framed, glazed and matted using 100% archival materials and UV glass. From the hand of longtime animation story man Jorgen Klubien.
The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982, while he was working as an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco; Disney released the film through its Touchstone Pictures banner because the studio believed the film would be “too dark and scary for kids”. The film was met with both critical and financial success, grossing over $76 million during its initial run. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, a first for an animated film. The film has since been reissued by Walt Disney Pictures, and was re-released annually in Disney Digital 3-D from 2006 until 2009, making it the first stop-motion animated feature to be entirely converted to 3D. Artwork from this film is considered extremely rare!!
PROVENANCE: The art was purchased from the premier collectibles auction house consigned to sell numerous pieces of Disney story board/concept art. A copy of the original lot description and invoice will be included, and will provide both provenance and authenticity for the art. As common with production art, the piece is not signed as the origin of the art is for the purpose of making a film.
