Descriptionafter hearing of #johnpaulleon’s passing over a month ago, i was busy virtually door knocking on comicartfans .com to see who’d part with their jpl oa; and luckily i found a collector/dealer who was willing to sell his oa;. i’m new to jpl’s art and only discovered him last year; but i was attracted to his art the first time i saw them; he’s respected my many industry professionals and fans alike for being precise in his approach to narrative art that sequentially flow like a cinema on print medium; his style varies from bold, minimal lines that instantaneously convey the essence of the graphic, to painstaking details that paint a picture of the environment; both of his approaches are by design and not by some ad-hoc thinking; . here’s an all jpl page from “black widow: deadly origin” no.4, page 8, 2010; it’s a poignant moment in the book where steve confronted natalia that she should leave tony’s team and join his—from the “civil war” storyline; . as a backstory, cv is about an accidental killing of a villain by heroes, and thus the american government decided that heroes are required to be government regulated; tony stark, aka iron man, and his team was pro government, but steve rogers aka captain america, and his cohorts, believed that heroes should be above the government; . i love the minimal application of lines representing the faces, including the cinematic flow of the panels as jpl illustratively tells the story; now i’m searching for page 7 to complete this narrative; does anyone know who’d have the oa, which is shown? . a huge thank you to christopher delay for making this acquisition a reality; and purchased at the CAF art sale around may 2021 Social/Sharing |

The panel backgrounds as well as shadows in the foreground are utilized to great effect! We are switching camera positions and seeing one side of the conflict and then the other. Even Cap doesn't have all the answers as this isn't a simple problem, but he knows what he stands for and is uncompromising in his ideals. Gorgeous center panel of BW.
