Description
The Story of Inked Disney Publicity Drawings Pt. 5, cont.

To this day, I find it hard to believe that anyone would want those two drawings for prices I was unwilling to pay.

The On Ice went for $5,500, which was not unexpected, and many of the other Mickey drawings, i.e., the Mickey's Steamroller, Gulliver Mickey, Two Gun Mickeys (2), Band Concerts, and the Wise Little Hen all did well and sold for multiple thousands of dollers each. But the one I badly wanted, the Mickey's Polo Team, topped them all at $13,500 hammer. What few probably knew was that a Canadian billionaire, Herbert Black, had become interested in Disney art and had begun a two year period during which he would dominate the animation auction market. He boght most of the high priced inked drawings, including the great Polo Team example. I didn't even come close on it...that time around.

But I did end up with 11 nice examples, nearly half of the great offering. Even though they were mostly from Silly Symphonies, when combined with the several inked drawings I already owned, they formed a very representitive collection of inked Disney publicity drawings.
