Description

As a child, I read Superman Family while my parents shopped at a Eckerd’s Drugs and Piggly Wiggly: in those dollar days it was often one of the only comics those stores carried. I can’t say that I collected it back then but I definitely loved to read it and bought it (or asked my parents to buy it) when I could.

I loved the whole cast-Krypto and his partner Ed, Nightwing and Flamebird, the Kandorian Batman and Robin, Jimmy Olsen, Lois Lane, Supergirl, Superman, Superboy, and Mr. and Mrs. Superman. I enjoyed the guest stars like the New Doom Patrol, Guardian, the Newsboy Legion, Speedy, and the Human Cannonball.

All of that to say-this page was tailor made for me-most of the cast celebrating Superboy-drawn by the great Kurt Schaffenberger, with a happy Krypto prominently featured.

Purchased from Gary Land in 2021.

The family united on a march is a magnificent sight! The use of it to introduce the anthology of stories on the following pages is inspired!

Great work from Schaffenberger, an artist who wasn't afraid of a crowd scene! That's a lovely, heartwarming title page.
