Mustafa and Hannah by Mark Schultz

About 20 years I had a small pencil piece of Hannah by Mark Schultz. However because it had been folded in the middle at some time, there was a very visible crease which distracted from my enjoyment of it so I traded it away.
I thought I would be able to pick a better piece in the future. However the price of his art soared and it appeared that he had a number of fervent fans that got to all the good piece before me. I saw him a several conventions including Baltimore a couple of years ago but each time his portfolio had been picked over.
Finally, I got lucky and landed this piece. There is a number of things that made this the one for me.
- It has two members of the supporting cast of Xenozoic Tales: Hannah Dundee and Mustafa Cairo.
- The miniature pterosaur is apparently set as a lookout.
- Mustafa is surveying (in fact Mark called this piece Mustafa, Surveyor).
This reminded me of one of my college summer jobs when I worked on a surveying team. I didn't get to play with the instruments. My job was more the grunt work but it was fun times!
