Louis Darling (1916 - 1970)was an artist, best known as the illustrator of The Enormous Egg and the illustrator of Beverly Clearly's first 12 books, including Henry Huggins (1950), Beezus and Ramona (1955), and The Mouse and the Motorcycle (1965). He was also the author of 15 books dealing with animals & nature; and he - along with his wife Lois - were the illustrators of Rachel Carson's Silent Spring (1962), a book that strongly influenced the environmental movement in the 60's and helped lead to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency in 1970.
